Casual Conversation/Small Talk

When you meet someone in person or when you talk to someone over the phone

Cuando conoces a alguien en persona o cuando hablas con alguien por teléfono

How are you?

How was your day? ¿Cómo estuvo su día?

Good.

Great! = It was great.

Nothing special!

Very busy. = I was very busy.

I am tired.

A little complicated. (complicado)

It was difficult.

It was a lot of work.

What happened? Que paso?

What did you do today? ¿Qué hiciste hoy?

I did many things. Emails, mails, calling people.

I had a lot of meetings. (muchos/muchas)

I went to work and bought icecream. Which flavor? (Que sabor?)

I did homework I bought icecream with my brother.

My husband had a physical therapy. I helped my son’s homework.

I went shopping to Rogers.

I went to work. After work, I went to buy tools.

I cooked. I made a breakfast and I drove to school to drop off my daughter. And I came back home and cleaned the house.

I worked.

Conversation: Introducing my friend

Lily: Hi Davila! It’s great to talk to you! How have you been?

Davila: I was really busy! I moved to a new apartment with a new roommate.

Lily: Wow! That sounds a lot of work especially with COVID! Did you move safely?

Davila: I did. My brother helped me so it was not too bad.

Lily: That’s good. I am glad you moved safely. Who is your roommate?

Davila: He is a friend of my friend. He works for a small company nearby.

Lily: Okay! I think I know who he is.

Davila: Yeah, you may know him. He went to the same school with you. His name is Lucas.

Lily: Oh, I think I remember him! Is he tall with long brown hair?

Davila: Yep! That’s him.

Lily: What a small world!

Lily: Hi Davila! It’s great to talk to you! How have you been?

¡Es genial hablar contigo! ¿Cómo ha estado?

Davila: I was really busy! I moved to a new apartment with a new roommate.

¡Estaba muy ocupado! Me mudé a un nuevo apartamento con un nuevo compañero de apartamento.

Lily: Wow! That sounds a lot of work especially with COVID! Did you move safely?

Eso suena mucho trabajo, especialmente con COVID! ¿Te mudaste a salvo?

Davila: I did. My brother helped me so it was not too bad.

Así es. Mi hermano me ayudó, así que no fue tan malo.

Lily: That’s good. I am glad you moved safely. Who is your roommate?

Cerca = nearby

Close to = cerca de

Near = cerca de

It is close to Fayetteville.

It is near Fayetteville or Rogers.

It is nearby (adjectivo).

Lily: Okay! I think I know who he is.

Davila: Yeah, you may know him. He went to the same school with you. His name is Lucas.
